5 Scary Predatory Animals

In the animal world, there is the term "Prey or be Preyed Upon". It very accurately describes the life of various types of animals. Predatory animals in the middle of the food chain have only two possibilities: prey on other animals or be eaten by other animals. Here are 5 scary predatory animals :

1. Jaguar

The food chain in the Amazon Jungle is indeed quite unique because it turns out that not only Jaguars can prey on Anacondas, but the opposite can happen! Reporting from National Geographic, the Jaguar is one of the many animals that can be eaten by Anacondas. With their strong muscle coils, even Jaguars can be made immobile by them.

2. Lion

Even the Lion, dubbed the king of the jungle, cannot always be safe from attacks by other predators. As the apex predator on the African continent, a young and strong lion doesn't need to be afraid of anyone. But the old and sick lion turned out to be food for hyenas.

Yes, known as the hereditary enemy of Lions, hyenas don't just steal and fight for food with them. Hyenas are also opportunistic predators that can attack weak Lions and prey on them. However, Hyenas often avoid conflict with much stronger Lions.

3. Crocodile

Other predatory animals that are also often eaten are Crocodiles and their relatives, namely alligators and caimans. The What Eats page mentions that animals capable of preying on them include Anacondas, Pythons, Jaguars, and Leopards. yes, despite having a very strong bite, crocodiles can be rendered defenseless by a bite on the neck or a strong coil of a large snake.

4. Anaconda

In their natural habitat, namely the Amazon Forest, they are one of the most feared predators because of their ability to devour prey of any size whole. With a maximum length of almost 9 meters, a diameter of 30 cm, and a weight of 250 kg, the green Anaconda (Eunectes murinus) is the largest Snake in the world.

But that does not mean there are no animals that dare to prey on them. Jaguar, the largest cat in Latin America, was able to conquer them. Although very strong, the anaconda is difficult to resist the agility and bite of the Jaguar which is super strong and can crack its skull! But this is quite rare because Jaguars generally choose other prey that is easier to catch.

5. White Shark

Known to be fierce and have rows of razor-sharp teeth, almost no one dares mess with Sharks. Especially the great white shark (Carcharodon Carcharias). With a maximum length of up to 6 meters, weighing more than 2 tons, and 300 teeth, they are one of the most feared predators in the ocean.

But the title of ruler of the ocean feels more worthy of being pinned to the Orca aka Killer Whale (Orcinus Orca) which is able to prey on great White Sharks! With its incredible swimming speed, the Orca plunged into the shark's body and knocked it unconscious, then preyed on its heart. It is thought that this is because the liver is the fatty part that Orcas love.

The Smithsonian Magazine page even mentions that although it rarely happens, Orca attacks on great white sharks often have significant effects. Great white sharks are so reluctant to enter the area where attacks occur, sometimes even up to a year. Yep, the great White Shark, the top predator of the ocean, is very afraid of Orcas!
